OPEN MIND at Meximold

09.08.2023 — OPEN MIND Technologies, a leading developer of CAD/CAM software solutions worldwide, will be highlighting the advanced capabilities of its latest hyperMILL® CAD/CAM software suite at Meximold Booth #100 located at the Querétaro Centro de Congresos in Querétaro, México from October 11-12, 2023. Efficient programming and machining strategies in high performance hyperMILL® enable accurate, efficient 2.5D, 3D, 5-Axis and mill/turn machining. Precision techniques such as smooth overlaps, maintaining sharp edges, and improving surface finishes will be underscored at Meximold this year. Using conical barrel cutters with hyperMILL® MAXX Machining to obtain superior surface finishes, while reducing machining time over 90% will also be discussed and demonstrated.

Resulting in simplified programming and increased process reliability, attendees can see how the hyperMILL® VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer module links individual part programs with smooth and safe connections, enabling the cutter to remain close to the workpiece, so that violations of the axis limitations are detected and movement sequences are optimized accordingly. The Optimizer feature enhances fixed rotary and parallel axes by automatically locating a kinematically correct and collision-free solution. This saves time by eliminating the need to manually interact with the axes.

A recently enhanced milling surface extension in hyperMILL® for “3D Z-Level Shape Finishing” and “3D Profile Finishing” strategies will also be demonstrated. The process ensures high-quality and reliable surface extensions when required, even with complex geometries. Users can reliably and easily protect sharp edges and divide up machining areas, especially useful for creating high-quality surfaces in tool and mold making when combined with a hyperMILL® “Smooth Overlap” feature. “Smooth overlap” helps to avoid ridges and visible edges at transitions from flat to steep component areas.

Also to be highlighted at Meximold is a break-edge function for contour milling, combined pocket milling together with a finish path allowing cutter compensation, and increased efficiency for 3D plane machining. The automated 3D plane machining strategy improves machining quality by searching for suitable, high performance path layouts according to parameters, including when adaptive pockets are present.
