OPEN MIND

Three strategies, one system

Only the CAM software hyperMILL® offers you a comprehensive deburring strategy package based on 3- and 5-axis technology.

Why is deburring directly on the machine so important?

Deburring is more than just a final processing step – it is crucial in ensuring the proper function, safety and quality of a part. If this process is integrated directly into CNC machining, manual reworking, additional part handling and separate work steps are no longer necessary. This is exactly where hyperMILL® comes in: With three efficient strategies for hole brushing, hole deburring and deburring part edges, hyperMILL® offers an end-to-end solution. All strategies can be implemented both as 3-axis and 5-axis machining and ensure burr-free part edges – directly on the machine.

Hole brushing – ideal for deburring and polishing hole surfaces and sinks

Do you regularly machine parts with cross holes, threads or internal contours? Then you will be familiar with these problems: Burrs in hard-to-reach places, inadequate surface quality and high costs for manual reworking. With the special hole brushing strategy available in hyperMILL®, you can reliably deburr holes and cross holes, threads or other hard-to-reach internal contours with special brushing tools – directly on the machine for maximum ease of operation. At the same time, you can improve the surface quality in a targeted manner.

The machining process is clearly structured and divided into several phases. You can precisely define individual machining parameters such as spindle direction, speed, feedrate and dwell time for each phase. Additional settings such as brushing direction, machining area and repetitions can be conveniently adjusted in the parameter dialog.

Your advantages at a glance
  • Significantly reduced rework machining effort
  • Higher and reproducible part quality
  • Simple programming and intuitive user interface
  • Versatile application for different types of holes
  • Improved surface quality of holes and threads
  • Seamless integration into the existing machining process

Hole deburring – safe deburring of holes and cross holes

Sharp edges on holes or cross holes cost time, are difficult to access and pose a high risk of manual errors or collisions. Deburring often becomes a bottleneck in the process, especially when handling complex geometries. Thanks to the 5-axis hole deburring strategy, hyperMILL® offers you a sophisticated solution: All relevant holes and sharp edges are automatically recognized and highlighted in the model. All you have to do is select the desired edges – and leave the rest to the system. Toolpaths are calculated fully automatically, including an intelligent decision between indexed and simultaneous 5-axis machining.

Your advantages at a glance
  • Offers a 3-axis and a 5-axis machine mode
  • Automatic detection and highlighting of all relevant holes and edges
  • Flexible use of tools: Lollipop and ball mills
  • Integrated collision avoidance
  • Intelligent decision between indexed and 5-axis simultaneous machining
  • Can be perfectly integrated into existing CAM workflows with hyperMILL®

Edge breaking – reliable deburring of sharp part edges

You know the problem: Sharp edges on the part are not only visually unattractive, but also obstruct assemblying, pose a risk of injury and impair operation. Manual deburring takes a lot of time, is susceptible to errors and unnecessarily slows down your production. With the 5-axis deburring strategy in hyperMILL®, you can solve this problem directly on the machine. It breaks all sharp edges efficiently and reliably. The strategy offers you a 3-axis and 5-axis machine mode for maximum flexibility. The 5-axis machine mode gives you access to significantly more edges. Optimum tool inclination and reliable collision avoidance are generated automatically to ensure reliable, uniform deburring, even in hard-to-reach areas.

Your advantages at a glance
  • Offers a 3-axis and a 5-axis machine mode
  • Automatic detection and highlighting of all sharp part edges
  • Integrated collision avoidance
  • Intelligent decision between indexed and 5-axis simultaneous machining

FAQ

What is the difference between the 3-axis and 5-axis machine mode?

Not every part is the same: The 3-axis machine mode is ideal for easily accessible geometries and can also be used on 3-axis machines. For complex parts with hard-to-reach edges, the 5-axis machine mode offers maximum flexibility on your multi-axis machine.

How are the edges selected for deburring?

Our intelligent CAM Plan function analyzes the topology of the part and automatically detects all hole features and sharp part edges. It identifies these and provides the information in both deburring strategies. You simply select the edges to be deburred, and hyperMILL® provides you with an optimized display for this task. All parameters relevant for machining are automatically generated from the topology information.

How is the chamfer dimension defined?

Simply enter the required chamfer distance in the strategy settings, and hyperMILL® will automatically calculate the appropriate infeed based on the tool geometry used.

What advantages does the 5-axis machine mode offer?

5-axis machining gives you significantly better accessibility to complex part geometries and automatically ensures reliable collision avoidance. You decide whether machining will be simultaneous or indexed (3+2). If you activate simultaneous machining, hyperMILL® automatically detects where it makes sense to use this strategy – all other areas are machined efficiently using indexing. This means you benefit from fast and reliable machining, precisely tailored to your part.

Which tools are supported?

Various tool types are available for deburring with hyperMILL®: The strategies for deburring edges and holes support both ball mills and lollipop cutters. The cutting area of the tool is fully taken into account and used to calculate the toolpath. A specially designed brushing tool is used for brushing the holes.
